You'd be hard pressed to beat beef jerky. The very thought of it evokes images of ruddy-checked, tousle-headed children waving American flags. That and nightmarish cattle rendering facilities. But hey, as a great man once said, You don't get delicious without killing a few cows.
We didn't think we liked beef jerky anymore, but just now we had a piece and it satisfied. If we had a pound bag we'd eat the whole thing here on the spot, growling at anybody that threatened to take the bag away.
When we were a kid we ate lots of beef jerky. Slim Jims too. We were totally into the whole "meat snack scene." But as we grew older we moved away from the between-meals meat concept. You could say we became "estranged." Or "forgot our roots." Anyway, we're glad we're back, although we're not ready to climb back on the Slim Jim train just yet.
Perhaps the greatest irony of our whole meat snack estrangement is that every year our mom, who thinks we still love beef jerky, buys us a pound bag for Christmas. Finally this year we informed her that we never eat that pound bag, which means that this Christmas, when we're finally ready to dig into some beef jerky for the Yuletide, mom isn't going to buy us any.
Figures.
Remember those super salty 1965 Slim Jims we ate at W&J's in 1990 something? They were like salt encrusted god nipples. Emmett is now officially into Slim Jims. He, too, got a super salty one but it was at the local beer mart & of an unknown vinatge. But I bet if I looked close enough I could see that bullet-headed Ukranian barkeep in the wrapper somewhere.

I don't, unfortunately. I clearly remember the signs forbidding dancing, sitting on the pool tables, loud voices, and, ironically considering it was a bar, drinking. You've got Emmett hooked on "the jim"? You should be ashamed of yourself.
Dan, that's not farfetched. Not by a long shot.
