As I recall from Cyrinda Foxe-Tyler's 'Dream On: Livin' on the Edge with Steven Tyler and Aerosmith', Cyrinda claims that when Bowie first arrived in NY, no one knew anything about him so his manager hired extremely promiscuous women and others from Andy Whorl’s entourage to visit disk jockeys and drum up airplay. Bowie’s band name could have been ‘Ziggy Syphilidust and the Albinopubes from Mars’ and it wouldn’t have mattered. He was destined to be a star.
