During our previous discussion of famous Mantooths, how could we have overlooked the most famous of them all--Randy Mantooth? During the seventies and eighties, his easy good looks graced most of television's most execrable shows, from Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law to Adam 12 to Alias Smith and Jones to one of our personal favorites, Night Gallery. Why, Mantooth even had the rare honor of appearing on the three programs that made up that Holy Trinity of bad TV: The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Charlie's Angels. It may be presumptious of us, but we believe that Randy's domination of the tube during this era was so complete--he was to bad televison as Irwin Allen was to bad TV disaster movies--that this period should be renamed "The Mantooth Years." Some day this overlooked actor will get his due, and people will say to one another, "What did you do during the Mantooth Years?"
